Sarvajnamitra

Sarvajnamitra lived in Kashmir in the 8th Century AD, He was a Tantric Buddhist and flourished during the time of King Lalitaditya. Kalhana mentions him, and praises him to the extent of comparing him with Buddha himself. The author has written several other stotras.

On of the most important Buddhist devotional poem is Sarvajnamitra’s Sragdharastotra, written in praise of Buddhist goddess Tara, the female counterpart of Avalokitesvata. The poem containing 37 verses is written in Sragdhara metre.
