Petal Pilgrim

I’d be a petal to see from a tree blossom
Valiant amongst valiant fellows
Each the closer and the purer
Each the fonder and the stronger for it

I’d waver topmost to welcome snow first
Clinging to mirror the sudden softness
First to hear the bold Orion
Buckling his belt for a glory night

I’d give my pinwheel pride
To fly unarmed by the fourth wind
Scatter then unbiased in slow confetti
To hallow a sleeted earth
