Help of Helplessness

Mind would appraise and plumb the deep,

 But has no liquid eyes

That will equp him for the enterprise.

He dives in his high courage, crying:

“All msut yield to my keen

Swift piercing gaze,” and yet there supervene

Strange blurs and eddies he could not

  Anticipate nor surmise.

He stands in awe: whence did such gloom arise!

Rings out from the depths a vibrant voice:

  “The gloom is liquid light

And thus to solid eues seems inky night.”

Helpless he wails: “My real eyes

    Are blinded by the glooms!”

Lo, on dark’s stem the lone Pearl-flower booms!
